The C.C.P.A appointed re-verification team visited the Piramal Aurora site on October 22nd and 23rd
2008 to conduct the required tri annual Responsible Care® re-verification. The reverification evaluates how the Company has continued to comply with Responsible Care® code elements, maintained the Responsible Care® ethic and has in place a management system that fosters continuous improvement.
From the perspective of industry recognized Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Piramal is a world recognized facility and frequently passes stringent the U.S. Federal
Drug Administration audits. The site Safety, Health and environmental management
systems (SHE) are robust and responsive to the changing needs of the workforce. The
team noted seven “Best Practices” that will be outlined in the body of the report. The
team was also very impressed with the “Piramal Credo” which is a corporate document
that outlined the Piramal Group business philosophy which has portions such as
community and stakeholder values sustainability and social responsibility that
somewhat mirror the Responsible Care® codes and ethic. The section of the Credo
that describes the Action, knowledge and care credos can be viewed as a continuous
improvement process.
The team also found that the Responsible Care® management system is not
sufficiently robust to address all findings from the in-place report, provide an annual
code compliance audit and provide for continuous improvement in Responsible Care®.
The team was also of the opinion that the Responsible Care® Ethic needs to be
reinforced at the site level and, for information purposes at the Piramal Group
corporate level. The team noted nineteen findings requiring action and twenty-nine
opportunities for improvement. As a result the team will need to return within six
months of receipt of this report to assess the status of six findings that the team
deemed necessary for sign-off on this re-verification. These findings are marked with
an asterisk in the report.
